The Duke Meets His Match by Tina Gabrielle

Everything was falling into place for Chloe to receive a proposal from the Earl. He was young and had just come into some good money. Chloe was tired of struggling this is all she needed to break free.

Michael was a Duke. Though that granted him a grand life it never compared to loosing his father and close friend in the last war. Michael made a promise to look out for Henry. Henry’s father sacrificed his own life to save Micheal. Which meant he would protect him from this fraud he planned to wed.

Plot:

There is more to a person than whats on the surface, and sometimes you have to hold back for them to reveal their layers.

Negatives:

Michael was very forceful. He was an army man but he also was very disrespectful. I know during that time many men weren’t upstanding. I just felt as though Michael was lust driven and careless. I also think that Chloe made a foolish choice because if things don’t work out with Henry she would need certain “things” for her next courtship.

Positives:

I enjoyed Chloe most of all. She over came so much and she chose to give her time to others suffering. I also love the choice made at the end for the couple and their future. I was pleasantly surprised when the author didn’t pair Henry up with another just so the story could wrap easily. The author took the hard way out.

My Thoughts:

I love a good rags to riches story but this was a whole new twist. Chloe and her sisters actually worked to get out of their predicament. They each found a guy perfect for them. I also loved that Chloe didn’t settle. This was a very gritty edgy 19 century story and I enjoyed it. The story lacked something for me and I’m not sure what it was. I think that maybe Michael’s character was too aggressive for me. I gave the book 3/5 stars. I hope to continue with more work by this author.
